The latest Oz reading

I've gotten through the latest comics. Here are the Oz contents:

  • Grimm Fairy Tales Presents the Library #3. The Wicked Witch of the West manages to get the key, only for Sela to then steal the book from her and escape into another story, with lots of rain, a very haunted-looking house, and someone else who wants the key and book, too!
  • Fables #112. Wait, you end the last issue on that cliffhanger, and then don't even touch it this issue? Which means no Oz content at all? Moving on...
  • Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz #4. We're halfway done with this one! This issue covers the Valley of Voe (wow, that's one mean looking bear!) and the Braided Man. As usual, a terrific adaptation by Eric Shanower and wonderful new art by Skottie Young.

I also acquired a new book, The Illustrated Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. I got this one because it includes John R. Neill's illustrations from the 1908 Reilly & Britton edition of Alice. Unfortunately, this volume only reproduces six of Neill's pictures, and all but one within the first two dozen or so pages. (It probably comes as no surprise that Neill's Alice looks an awful lot like his Dorothy.) Despite that, it's a nice if not spectacular edition of Alice, with the original John Tenniel illustrations, and others by Arthur Rackham, Gordon Robinson, Harry Rountree, and even Lewis Carroll himself.
