Oz comics!

The comics arrived this week! And you know what that means, don't you? Yup! Oz stuff in the comics!

  • The big one was, of course, the eighth and final issue of Eric Shanower and Skottie Young's adaptation of The Marvelous Land of Oz. Being the obsessive completist that I am, I naturally bought both the standard and Eric Shanower variant covers. This one picks up with Mombi, having transformed herself into a rose, being carried out of the Emerald City on the oblivious Tin Woodman's hat. (Yes, hat. With Young's Tin woodman, it works better there than it would in his lapel, as Neill illustrated it.) The big event of this book is, however, the reveal of what happened to Ozma (and I am so looking forward to what the comics fans, the ones who don't know about the original book, think of that). Young's Ozma is adorable, and a lot closer to Neill's version than I was expecting (albeit the classic black-haired version, with poppies, and not the original blond version). And of course there's the happy announcement that their adaptation of Ozma of Oz starts this fall. I am really looking forward to Skottie Young's version of the nomes!
  • Remember the flu-induced Oz dream in the Full Frontal Nerdity comic a few weeks ago? Well, the whole thing has been reproduced in PS 238 #45.
  • And in Justice League of America #47, the back-up features Cyborg. Yet again, someone refers to him as "Tin Man". I seem to recall that sort of reference going at least as far back as his appearances on the old Super Friends show...
