This Week's Oz Short Story

After an epic cliffhanger spread out over two issues, it's appropriate that the next story in the 2002 edition of Oziana is only one page long. "Vice Versa" by J. L. Bell sees Scraps having trouble making rhymes. So to get her groove back, she goes out on a flight on Pigasus, which causes most people to speak in rhyme. But it has a strange effect on Scraps, since she usually talks in rhyme so much of the time anyway. I won't give much more away, except to say that there's more than one way to spout poetry if you're riding a poetical pig.

Since it's so short, I may as well use this entry to go over the other incidental little parts of this issue, starting with the cover. That's appropriate, because it's a charming picture by Melissa Bay Mathis of Scraps riding Pigasus! An illustration of the Scarecrow by Melody Grandy is used on a page inviting readers to contribute to the magazine. Robin Olderman contributes a series of word puzzles called CryptOZgrams. And the back cover is an old John R. Neill illustration of Woot the Wanderer sipping tea from Mrs. Yoop's cup, newly colored by Mébès.
