This Week's Oz Short Story

We start off the 2002 edition of Oziana where we left off in our last entry: "An Oz Cliffhanger" part 2, written and illustrated by Gina Wickwar. After getting out of that (literal) cliffhanger from the last issue—like often happens in these cases, it actually happens pretty quickly and easily—Trot, Cap'n Bill, Ding-a-Ling, and Boo-Koo meet up with Flora Rosabunda, a fiberglass decorative cow from New York City who was brought to life and transported to the Quadling Country in one fell swoop. Once Flora joins the party, it's a pretty straightforward adventure to find a yellow brick to get back to the Emerald City. Of course, before they find the road they have encounters with a living crossword puzzle, a band of swamp alligators, and finding gloves for the Scarecrow. The best new addition to the story is Flora, who at first wants to go back to New York, but after having a few adventures and making friends, she starts having second thoughts.

Between the two parts, it's not a whole lot of story, more a string of incidents that happen to some of our friends. But this is far from the first Oz story that is like that. And it certainly serves its purpose to be an entertaining tale to supply material for not one, but two issues of Oziana.
