Without doubt, the most Halloweeny character in all the Oz books is Jack Pumpkinhead. I mean, he's a man with a carved pumpkin for a head. It doesn't get more Halloween than that. So for my second Ozzy Halloween Oz post, here is a link to chapter 1 of The Marvelous Land of Oz, the second Oz book, that details Jack's creation, and even his relation to what author L. Frank Baum calls a "jack-lantern". Click on any of the illustrations, and you get a full page version, including this classic color plate showing Jack in all his glory. Of course, if you want to find out how Jack comes to life, you will want to read chapter 2. If you want the whole book, you can buy excellent editions in both hardback and paperback.
