The latest Oz reading

I'm finally getting through last month's comics, which means a few Oz ones are percolating up to the top. Today, it was Cinderella: Fables are Forever #6, completing the miniseries. In this one, we get some of Dorothy's backstory and her relations to the other Fables, and just why she hates Cinderella so much — and why Cindy feels compelled to take her out. The first page has some very nice Denslow- and Neill-inspired art in the flashback. Beyond the characters, however, it's a pretty straightforward climax to a spy caper, with the two protagonists going mano a mano in the desert — but in this case, it's the Deadly Desert! I won't spoil the ending, of course, in case you want to pick up the series yourself (or the trade paperback collection). I'll just say that this one is definitely not for Oz purists. But if you have a sense of humor and like seeing your favorite fairy tale characters in kick-butt Bond-esque situations, you may very well enjoy this one.
