We're slowly getting everything ready and worrying that we've forgotten to pack something or other, but overall it's coming together nicely. We'll have a day and a half of driving to relax once we leave here. So, this year's convention looks like it's going to be all wet, and I'm not talking about the weather. Since 2011 marks the one hundredth anniversary of the publication of The Sea Fairies, the eightieth anniversary of Pirates in Oz, and the seventy-fifth anniversary of Captain Salt in Oz, this year's theme is Oz Under the Sea, and we're going to have lots of mermaids and pirates running around. (Some of the other visitors at Asilomar may mistake us for a Peter Pan fan group as a result. Like we care!) We're also going to have visits and presentations from Tommy Kovac, writer of the comic book The Royal Historian of Oz and Kirk Kushin, writer of the OZopolis comic, as well as Winkie regular Eric Shanower (since this weekend is not Comic Con International in San Diego), so Oz comics will be a big part of it, too.
It's probably too late for you to make plans to be there now, but if you want to follow along, I'll probably post a few things, and my wife is going to tweet about it on Twitter as well. You can see what she has to say at twitter.com/realtegan. And if I get a chance to write tomorrow, it will be from the road!
