The latest Oz reading

A friend of mine, knowing I'm an Oz fan, gave me the latest issue of the legendary Mad Magazine (#505, dated October 2010, for those of you counting at home). For the third time in its history, Mad has spoofed The Wizard of Oz. In this version, The Wizard of O, the Wizard is portrayed as Barack Obama (hence the title), and it's a commentary not only on the Obama presidency, but also all the television pundits who are his self-appointed critics. The Scarecrow is played by Bill O'Reilly, the Tin Woodman by Keith Olbermann, and the Cowardly Lion by Glenn Beck. So at least both sides come in for a ribbing. It's a surprisingly biting satire for Mad, but I haven't been a semi-regular reader for years, and it may have been going this way for years. Anyway, I enjoyed it for the Ozziness, at least. Your mileage may vary. The issue may still be available at your local newsstand, if you're interested.
