It's been a busy few weeks, but I did get a chance to go down to Portland a while ago to see the "ReTURN to Oz" exhibit at the World Forestry Center (here's the info link). It was fun to see the different interpretations of Oz from woodturning artists from all over the world. Most were based on the movie, but some knew the book, too. If you get a chance in the few days, go take a look. The rest of the Forestry Center is interesting, too.
On the trip, I also got a chance to read the first book in the Sisters Grimm series, about two girls who find out they're descended from the Brothers Grimm, and it's part of their legacy to deal with the fairy tale characters who have immigrated to a town in upstate New York. It's not just limited to the Grimm stories (and it's all explained why), which is why Glinda the Good Witch of the North (yes, I know, but that's what the books says) has a biggish part, and the Tin woodman has a cameo. I gather there are more Oz references in the rest of the series (Laura's already read the second book, and read a few of them out to me). Not to be taken seriously (whatever that means in an Ozzy context), but certainly a pleasant way to pass a few hours. Check out the website at http://www.sistersgrimm.com/newsite/index.html.
