Dorothy and the Wizard of Oz: Hammer Time

The new Munchkin Museum is about to open up with a wing devoted to the good witches of Oz and their deeds. So the Wicked Witch sends Wilhelmina to show the wicked witches aren't to be trifled with by bringing the Hammerheads in to wreck the museum. Frank and Lyman steal their food so they can lure them to the museum. When Dorothy and the boys get word of a loose hammerhead, they investigate, only to find a whole swarm heading towards the Emerald City. When the Scarecrow mentions that a group of sharks is called a herd, Dorothy knows just the solution: she saddles up the Woozy and puts cowboy hats on everyone so they can round up the herd! Ozma whips up a cage, and the Hammerheads are contained. Then they can actually communicate (good thing the Scarecrow knows their language), and they find the food in the museum. They agree to go home in exchange for the food. But they head off in an unexpected direction. It seems Lyman kept some of the food, so the Hammerheads head toward the Witch's castle and cause chaos there!

This is a pretty typical silly episode: Witches come up with some sort of scheme, it all goes horribly wrong once Dorothy and the gang get involved and put it right. But it was entertaining. But I have a big complaint. Now, I know this isn't the Oz of the books, and this show often does wild reinventions of classic Oz characters. (Heck, the Woozy is in this one just to hammer the point home, if you'll pardon the expression.) But this may be the wildest reinvention yet: The Hammerheads are actual hammerhead sharks! But they swim in the air, not water, and eat knockwurst and pound cake. (Yes, hammer-punned food.) But like the Hammerheads in the book, they can still shoot their necks out to pound things. It is pretty cool to see sharks swimming around Oz, though, and they're not bad, just exploited by the witches. There's also a running gag about knock-knock jokes, to throw in a few more puns.
