The latest Oz reading

The comics came this week, and you know what that means: A new Oz comic to talk about here! And this was an interesting one. It seems Papercutz has revived the old classic horror comic Tales from the Crypt, but many of the stories are parodies of pop culture. So, in issue #9, they riff on Wicked with a little thing called, of course, Wickeder, guest starring The Old Witch as Alfalfa (this version's take on Elphaba). This isn't really a take on Wicked, however, as it is on the aftermath of The Wizard of Oz. In this version, "Dotty" is a bit more clueless and clumsy, and has a few anger management issues. So naturally she's put on trial for killing Alfalfa, but just about everyone else meets with some weird demise in the process. Taken with a very large grain of salt, this is kind of a fun little romp into a very sideways version of Oz (and definitely the Movie version, although the good witch Belinda looks an awful lot like Glinda does on Broadway). The art is pretty good, too, reminding me a lot of what Don Piraro does in his comic Bizarro. I would suggest more sensitive readers might want to stay away, however.
