Oz in Jeopardy! The Inevitable Mea Culpa

Way back in this entry, I pointed out a Jeopardy! clue with a couple of errors. I decided to write to the nice folks at Jeopardy! and point them out.

Much to my surprise, I got a response! And not just from anyone, but the writer of the clue himself! So I thought I'd post it (with his permission) and let you all know the result:

Thanks so much for your letter and kind words about Jeopardy!

You are, indeed, correct about the Skeezers (which we mistakenly called Skeeters). I am the one who wrote the clue. It was a simple case of a typo that was missed by the research department even though all of the sources used for the clue called the characters Skeezers.

We hate to make mistakes, but due to the volume of material we use each year, an error will pop up from time to time.

Again, thanks for watching (and the eagle eye).

So those writers and researchers are human beings, and not just trivia-spewing automotons.
