Among the many items in our latest comic book order was The Oz-Wonderland Chronicles: Prelude to Evil #1 from BuyMeToys.com. As if it wasn't bad enough that this series has both an ongoing storyline and several minis and one shots that take place after the events we've seen (so far) in the ongoing, now they also start this prequel series. Yes, if you're familiar with the regular Oz-Wonderland Chronicles series, we see Dorothy and Alice, college roommates in Chicago, neither of whom remembers the events of their childhoods yet. But the focus of this series appears to be Sarah Holmes, a young woman whose mother seems to be in a troubled relationship. But when Sarah confronts her mother's boyfriend, she somehow ends up in Oz...and that's the end of the issue, of course. Always want to leave them wanting more, right?
I enjoyed this book, as I've enjoyed all of the Oz-Wonderland Chronicles books, but I do wish the writers and editors would get their act together and figure out what story they want to tell, and get on with the task of telling it before adding more titles into the mix. It's been a very long time since the last issue of the regular series, yet we've had this prequel and at least one other special in the interim. Production on these books is slow enough that the extras don't add anything, they just distract. Ah, well. At least this issue promises issue #4 of the regular series in August. Anyway, there's not a lot of Oz content in this issue, but if you've been reading the books anyway, you may as well get this one, too, especially since it looks like we'll get more Oz in the next issue (whenever that ends up coming out).
